Renting movies and ordering in for pizza two weeks running was more than Tom could take. And lucky for him, Rachel was in the same boat.

It wasn't like they'd been doing it every single night, but after staying in nearly half the time in that fourteen day period, he was starting to feel OMCS...Old Married Couple Syndrome. He knew Rachel was feeling it, too, because every time he sat down to get some work done she was either over his shoulder, which bothered him, or in his lap...which led to a lot of necking, bare minimum...or doing something annoying. Which, of course, didn't *really* annoy him, but he growled and snarled at her just the same.

And naturally, none of it fazed her because she knew he was full of shit.

But Saturday night was upon them again and Tom had actually gotten his latest stack of reports done and handed in. Still, he was at his desk, messing around with an idea about something and trying to hide it from Rachel, who was once again behind him, arms around his shoulders and chin atop his head to watch what he was doing as she chattered on about doing something fun or exciting.

"Okay, how 'bout this," Tom finally drawled, leaning back in his seat and tilting his head up, resting the top against her stomach after dislodging her chin, her arms still around his shoulders. "We go out, get drunk, and we get you to the local tattoo parlor...right smack dab in the middle of your left ass cheek we get you a real pretty heart with a banner across it that says 'The Love Butt.'"

Once the flurry of laughter and smacking had subsided into another round of Rachel in his lap, reminding him just how much he loved the fact that she was oral as hell. When they finally parted, he grinned, quirking an eyebrow.

"Okay, so no Love Butt." he conceded. "But I ain't exactly kidding about the tattoo part, and we could definitely throw in getting drunk. Could be fun. Besides, I been thinkin' about getting another one...you could get one, too."

Tom snorted in a fight not to burst out laughing as she took the hand of his she was holding to lead him along and stuck it in her pocket while she got her shoes on. Only Rachel...only a goofy lunatic like her...

As she retrieved his hand, he let one brief laugh go, leaning over to kiss her, quick but thorough. "You've officially *lost* it." he chuckled, draping an arm around her shoulders as they left the apartment.

Once downstairs, he led her to the garage and handed her into his car. "Well the place I'm going for my ink is Sly's on Sunset." he informed her. "We could always go drinking at the Rainbow Bar...see how many celebrities we can spot. That's where all the musicians like to go."

He started the car and she thought about it for a moment, as he backed out of the space and started down the winding lanes toward the main road. "How about we skip the bar, go straight to get the ink, and get drunk afterward."

She was serious too, because she knew if she started to drink she'd actually end up with The Love Butt tattooed on her ass, and that wasn't anything that she remotely thought she wanted. Since heading down to the car her mind had been spinning a few ideas into her that were actually sounding like something she might have wanted, but she knew that when she got there that the choice would be on instinct.

Pure instinct was all she could hope for at least, because this was one Saturday night where she had no clue what was going to happen.

"So? Ink then drink?"

Tom glanced over at her for a moment, then back at the road, visibly surprised. "You wanna head in there *sober?* Brave." he snickered, nodding. "Okay, I'm game...we'll celebrate our newfound tattooed badassery together, or something like that." He paused, blinking as he shook his head. God help him, he was starting to sound a little like Rachel. And that should NOT be happening. Not at least until he got up the balls to propose...

Shooting her another glance, he grinned. "Okay, agreed...ink then drink. But that means you *have* to get something. No ink, no drink...or not much drink, and *you* have to pick up the tab for *me* drowning the pain in booze."

Rachel agreed to the arrangement wondering just how drunk Tom could get, considering she hadn't actually seen him truly intoxicated. She watched him feign it on numerous missions, but to be really drunk? Rachel wasn't even sure it was possible, she was determined to see it though.

"Deal. I think I know what I want too, and I'm not telling either." She was grinning now, obviously content to ride to the tattoo parlor with her secret burning ideas into his head. She was pretty sure he was thinking all the naughty spots she could get something done, but truthfully having someone else looking at her for that long was a bit frightful.

"Now that's just cruel." Tom replied with mock annoyance, shaking his head before they fell into their usual mix of comfortable silence and incessant teasing...all throughout which Tom found himself wondering just what and where Rachel would get something.

Frankly, he was surprised she'd actually go through with it at all.

They finally reached the tattoo parlor a short while later. Parking outside, Tom walked around and handed Rachel out of the car with a grin, wrapping an arm around her waist as they walked in, flashing her a teasing smile as he slipped his hand possessively into the back pocket of her jeans.

"Welcome to Sly's, how can I help...T! That you?" the woman at the counter called out with a smile as they entered.

"Hey, Sid." Tom grinned, high fiving her as they reached the counter. ""How's business?"

"Usual...how long's it been? A year? And who's this?"

"This? This is Rachel. Rachel...this is Sid. Like Cherise." Tom introduced.

The rainbow-haired woman behind the counter smirked, lip ring flashing in the light as she shot Tom a knowing look. "She's cute."

"She's taken." he quipped. "We're both gonna go under the needle tonight...you real busy?"

"Nah...Terry's got a client, but I can do you two. Or me and Page, depending on how big a job we're talking."

Rachel felt a bit odd, only because suddenly she was getting a glimpse into a part of Tom's life, and she didn't quite 'fit-in' with the environment. The compliment was nice though, making her smile and lean in against Tom a bit. Rachel felt a bit of butterfly in her stomach, but mostly because this was the now or never moment, and she had already pretty much signed on for the now part of it.

"Actually? I kinda don't want him to see it until it's done? So maybe? I mean... I don't want to be a hassle, but he's kinda nosy." Rachel smirked ribbing him in the side with her elbow.

Sid grinned, nodding in understanding. "Got plans, huh? All right, all right...separate chairs, then. REAL separate."

Tom turned to Rachel, flashing her a scowl that had no real conviction behind it. "I am not nosy!" he protested.

"All men are nosy." Sid chimed in, still grinning. "You know what you want, T?"

"Yeah...I'll tell you when you get to me."

"All right, all right...this your first time, Rach?" Sid asked over her shoulder as she moved away from the counter, beckoning them to follow her.

Rachel nodded, "Yeah I have mine."

She followed Sid back to one of the side rooms and exhaled the breath she had been holding in. She wrung her hands together a bit, and then wandered a bit in the small room before finally taking a seat on the stool.

"So what do you have in mind?"

Sid asked, and Rachel explained her whole "concept" and Sid sketched a few things out and Rachel finally picked one of them. Then then they discussed size and placement. Originally she wanted it on her wrist, but of course when Sid pinched her skin and heard Rachel yelp it was immediately moved from her wrist to the small of her back. Sid insisted that it was a bit sexier and easier to cover up if she needed to.

Rachel realized that it probably wouldn't be good to have a tattoo on her wrist that could be easily recognizable and suddenly agreed that her lower back was a much better idea. Sid told her to unzip her pants and fold her jeans over her hips and tuck her panties as low as she could get them.

"Inks gonna run when I wipe parts of it clean and I'm not gonna get a cleaning bill for your underwear."

"Oh.. right." Rachel followed the directions and laid on her stomach feeling the coolness of the alcohol and then the slight scrape of the razor. She had the cute soft fuzz and now she was fearful it would grow all horrible, which Sid must have assumed.

"Don't worry, it won't grow back where the tatt is, you'll be fine. Smooth as babies butts." Sid pressed the transfer to her skin and asked her to check the placement before she got started, and when Rachel approved it was all lights green.

"You ready?"

"Yeah." It was all Rachel could get out of her mouth before she heard the vibration of the needle and felt it press to her skin. There was no going back now, that was for sure. The sting of the needle ended up becoming a numb sensation as the vibration was repeated over and over. A lot of slow breathing and nails biting into her elbows kept her pain threshold in check and within forty minutes or so Sid was almost done.

"I work fast, and I got a few lines to go back over, but here stand up and take a look."

On unsteady legs Rachel stood up and moved toward the mirror on the wall, turning her hip and glancing over her shoulder she saw the redness of her skin, but also the outline of her tattoo. Grinning proudly she spun back around, "It's perfect Sid."

"Then hop back over her so I can finish it up."

Rachel got back on her stomach and felt the sting of the needle again for another ten minutes, and when the buzzing stopped Rachel knew she had something permanent on her now. The cool washclothe was cleaning off the excess ink and Sid placed some antibacterial salve on it and then a loose piece of gauze.

"Don't pick at it, don't get it wet, and keep this stuff on it so it heals alright blondie? Also, don't let T give you a hassle over it. Let him see it when you're ready."

Rachel nodded and took the small tube of oinment out into the main room where she was either going to run into a curious Tom or be waiting for him. Either way she had her tattoo, and Tom still had not a clue what it was of.

Tom was set to wait for Sid to get done with Rachel before he took a chair, but after a few minutes another guy walked out of the back, intricate tattoos in place of hair, nearly glowing as his bald head gleamed in the bright lights.

"Skull! What's up, man?" he called out, moving towards the man as he was spotted.

"T? Holy crap, man! How you doing?!"

The two men chatted for a few moments, including some discussion over Rachel and Tom's good fortune when she was just vanishing in the back of the shop. After a couple more minutes of talk which included Tom's desired tattoo, Skull had him in a chair.

"Trust me, man...you're gonna love the idea I got. It'll fit just perfectly."

Tom watched as the man went to work, then proudly displayed the Japanese-influenced sketch of what he wanted.

"You know where you want it, T-Bird?"

Now this was the easy part. Leaning forward a little, Tom peeled off his t-shirt and circled a spot on the skin of his chest with one finger...on the left side, just over his heart. "Right here."

"Gonna hurt, you up for it?"

Tom didn't answer...simply looked at him.

Skull just smiled, shaking his head with a laugh as he got to work, shaving the patch of skin and getting the transfer together.

He hadn't been kidding, though...it hurt like hell when the needle touched his skin. Still, Tom didn't flinch, barely moved as Skull worked, slowly and methodically working the design into Tom's skin.

And the end result, when Skull showed him in the mirror, was better than he could have hoped. It was delicate and absolutely beautiful, all without being overtly feminine...an Asian influenced image of a mockingbird on a branch, flanked by a single Japanese character that stood for love.

"You know the drill, T...leave it alone, keep it dry, and don't forget the ointment." Skull warned as he coated the tattoo in a thin film of antibiotic salve before carefully taping a square of gauze over it. "Your girl oughta be done in about fifteen minutes...keep your shirt off 'til then, it'll be less uncomfortable."

"Thanks, man." Tom sighed, sliding out of the chair and wincing only a little as the bandage chafed against the sensitive skin. Tossing his t-shirt over his opposite shoulder, he settled in to wait until Rachel emerged.

When he heard her footfall, he turned to face her, still shirtless, the square of gauze on his chest clearly marking where he'd had his own tattoo placed. Walking over to her, his gaze raked over her body, looking for a telltale swatch of medicinal white.

"So...where is it?" he asked with a small smirk.
